Here is your semester in a nutshell:
- We will spend time practicing essay writing skills in preparation for the TCAP Writing Assessment on February 2nd
- We will spend time reviewing math skills in preparation for the TCAP Assessment
- We will spend time looking at career choices, personality profiles, colleges, and creating your 4-year plan for high school
Yes, it will be a full semester! We are looking forward to working with you. Ultimately, this class will be what you make it. We hope you want to make it worthwhile.
It might be good to think of this class as a job. You are an employee. Your teacher is the manager. You work for a paycheck (OK, we call it a report card). Like any job, there are expectations about your behavior, work ethic, dress code, and job performance. What? Did you think school just did those things to harass you? Far from it! School is the training ground for life. We operate by the same rules as McDonalds, Wal-Mart, O’Charley’s, Lowe’s, Rubbermaid, and other companies across the county and the country.
Here is school/work/life in a few sentences. Work hard and you are rewarded. Slack off and you aren’t. Meet expectations and you survive. Exceed expectations and you get promoted. You get more money. You can afford more bling. But wait….you get more responsibility, too. Which leads to higher expectations.
So, welcome to the world of work in the 8th Grade Discovery class!
